Words of Wisdom

Its like this post came straight out of my head. I suggest you read it:

some of my favourite points:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/39/small-stakes-pl-nl/being-solid-very-long-838950/

making small mistakes early in a hand to avoid or cause bigger mistakes later on, such as folding 77 on a J94ss flop even though it might be the best hand at the time

2. Run bluffs with equity. When deciding to raise a K84 flop as a bluff, it's MUCH better to do so with 76s or A4s than it is to do so with JT.

4. Play JUST loose enough to get people to assume you're a goofball. 3-bet on the button. Occasionally C/R and bluff-raise obvious bluffing spots and then fold. Let your opponents assume you're capable of more than you actually are.

i prety much wana copy paste it all but just go read it!

unstuck for the month

july was pretty up and down. had my worst every session, took two weeks off and followed it up with my best ever session. the idfference i think is i stopped rying to be a 3bet monkey and went back to my normal game. hopefully all the regs took notes on me tho so now im a nit again i can waste them with my Aces :)

finished the month off with two good sessions over the weekend. posting my weekend graph cause it looks sexy:

4337 hands and i only fully stacked someone 5 times and was stacked for 100bb zero times myself. seems weird... i marked no hands so i thats pretty uninteresting. i might just post a bunch of stats today for future reference.

NL200 stats:

i manage to lose less than it costs to post a blind in the sb and bb so playing super tight from these positions seems to be working for me. my W$SD% is pretty high so i think im ment to be thinly betting more. one thing i know i do differently to alot of ppl is check call to catch bluffs rather than bet myself. not too surprisingly the button is where the moneys at!

i also played some rush after work. and ive been winning! maybe im just running good. one thing ive realised is that rush induces tilt like no other. seeing so many hands makes all the bad beats seem like they r happening too often. i was playing NL50 do i think the beats didnt hurt me so much and i could stay on my A game. plus the NL50 game is so unagressive preflop compared to what im used to now it all seems much easier.

lifetime graph nov09 - jul10

dam this is turing out to be a random bunch of ramblings. had a psoc torney the other day. was doing pretty good but took a pretty gay beat about halfway through. Had QJ suited and raise a fishy limper. 3 way flop Jxx all spades. i cbet about pot and the fishy guy calls. turn is a low blank so i put him all in. he tanks talking about how i must have a "big" hand here. eventually he calls with A9o with the 9 high flush draw. hits it ofcourse! after that i was down to 6bb or so but managed to survive for ages cause i had nits behind me and i shoved there blinds plus some limpers alot. got the standard "this isnt poker" from some dude as i shove over his limp with 6bb haha. eventually its me chewy and luke left for our 'last longer bet' and i have 18k, chewy on 20 something and luke doubled up recently to have like 30k maybe. blinds were like 1k 2k and guy who limps alot does just that, i have AT on button and shove him. he has KK. both blinds have folded Aces lol and im out. luke scoops the bet + first prize.

i also lost $200 at the home game the other week. pulled a pretty solid/standard bluff on luke that failed to lose my first hundy. then got a open ender + nut flush draw all in verse top set against luke of course. ran it twice and bricked for the second hundy. man i love playing omaha at the home game tho. everyone except luke just seems terrible. i try play in position cause everyone is so passive plus seeing flops cheap still gets my nitty ass image payed off.

ok thats my summary for the month. didnt play enough hands cause i took some time off so i didnt tilt after my worst session. hoping for more hands and more winnings in august!

blogging cause i won again

put in a 2k session today. nothing quite like running at 46bb/100 :D dug myself out of the hole for a profitable month.

i wish i knew how to filter my set hitting ratio cause i must have hit like 50% of them. was siiiiiiiiiiick

bluff gone bad:

biggest pot:

really thought someone might have TT KK there. instead they r virtually drawing dead

i get owned by a fish:

i only remember 1 hand from the other nights cash game. i had KK and raised the straddle after a limper (dev). luke called and so did dev. A79 and i cbet in position. i think i can get value here but i guess i coulda checked aswell. luke reraised me and i thought he was bluffing cause its a board where i prob have a strong hand often and its hard for him to make a better one judging by the pre action. then he insta shoved turn so i called cause most ppl do that when they r bluffing. luke had AK tho. i felt really dirty calling but the turn paired the board making a set or 2pair less likely. was still a bad call, just cause ive seen that tell doesnt mean luke does it. hes probly smarter and reverse telled me lol. finished the night exactly even tho after losing that $80 pot.

i think there is a game all day tomorow which should be sweet. got my 2.5k cashout and i tihnk the bank stole 3% for the exchange. bastards.... made over nz$20k from my poker career now. in one day winning more than i earn at work over a month is pretty rediculous :)

cashout curse?

oh o. i did a sneaky cashout just to get some funds and then bam! im getting owned left right and centre. ill admit i did also tilt a bit on the weekend and play kinda bad but daaaaaaaaam. i think ill just post some hands i played bad to punish myself:

DOOMSWITCH:

check fold check fold CHECK FOLD! start it off with a stupid hand indeed. obv flop and turn r fine. then i bet the river and he tanks for ages then calls with a straight. this just shows how absurdly thin a bet there is. every draw gets there so i can expect him to call with a hand worse than mine. this hand i was just auto piloting lol i have set bet bet bet.

crazy hand here. yes this guy randomly floats my 4 way to the flop with A high and hits his gin turn card. i couldnt see how he could have a bd flush and put him on QJ or 33. even QJ prob doesnt play it so strong. and i lose to 33. y didnt i fold the river :(

last bad hand cause its the worst of all. i beat NOTHING on the river and actually thought at the time he might turn a naked A spades into a bluff on the river. too bad no one would ever do that :( must hav been tilting so bad. i could make this fold any other day that im not down 1k.

getting too emo so ill show one hand i played well :) biggest hero call ever? btw he wasnt a donkey or anything it was weird! put me on AJ obv

i tihnk i played 3 nights of live poker last week. first night i was up 50 next down 50. not much happened i didnt have many hands and got 5bet alot lol. im glad to hear luke had AA for one of them. i tihnk it was one where i had opened utg, 1 caller and he 3bet BB. then i 4bet cause im craaaazy, and insta fold wen he 5bet me :(

i remember one kool hand. i have AK and get 4 callers or so. flop is 999. i cbet cause people think im tight so i think ill get alot of folds as everyone missed with their trash. marco calls and im like ok he prob has 66 or worse, luke reraises which is laughable. i guess he reps a nine here after callin from the BB. so i call w A high to get luke of the hand on the turn cause it will look like i have TT+. marco calls again and i dont think about it enough but i should have shut down here. so i bet turn and marco calls. he has 3/4 pot left on river (luke folded) i dont feel good anymore but i shove anyway cause a high card like a J i tihnk came. he had flopped quads haha owned.

actually i had another good hand verse marco. he 3bets me and we take a flop of Jxx and i have TT. he cbets i call, duno about position. K turn abv bad but marco had been going crazy pre so he has alot of worse hands that will rep AK here w a bet. so i call again. river is another KING. i think this is a good card, obv makes it less likely he has a K, he will prob check behind AA QQ cause he is a river noob. he overbets all in. so he pretty much has JJ AK or nothing. i tank for ages and look for tells. i think the betting leans toward a call, but he gave off some tells that i ignored cause i wanted to do a hero call. he had AK. at least i got some good tells. i got a few on everyone infact. especially tim lol.

the third night i owned tim pretty good. was 3 handed. i 3bet Q7 from bb he calls and has like $50. QJx so i bet and he calls. blank turn and i check, he bets which is pretty weird. he has become 'scared' for the lack of a better word and only bets really strong hands or bluffs/semi bluffs so i think im definately ahead on this drawy board so i shove. he then gets angry cause he knows he made a bad bet and calls anyway w KJ. it wasnt a bet for value or a bluff just a bad play but at least he realised after...

had that hand verse luke where i fold top 2 AJxQx. i mean who folds to LUKE?! he wont tell me what he had which is so lame :(

i ran good that last night, didnt win any one big pot just a bunch of descent ones. cashed for $360. played luke heads up which was pretty fun actually. he was kinda tilted tho and wasnt hitting much lol. o well he one outtered someone so he deseves a year of run bad!

at least i get a shit load of rakeback this week. put in so many hands tying to win back my losses lol! such a noob. god i felt like shit today after that performance :(

add a link to this blog cause i liked it. poker isnt some think that people are naturally good at. the best players simply try harder to get good than other people. moral of the story? get on the grind. think about poker fundamentals all day, GRIND MORE!!
http://www.pokerlistings.com/strategy/grit-and-the-grind-how-great-players-get-great
plus it somehow has the most hillarious comment ive ever seen on the internet and i wanted to remember it:
"Darwin wasn't a scientist at all. He rejected Christianity cause he hated God and made up a fairy tale for adults."
ok now i have to write down another one i JUST read on facebook
"Sport is a joke and just goes to show how dumb the rest of the world is for being so addicted to it and making it so popular."-from some heavily religious guy

PS: NOT religion bashing i just been studying evolution and religion lately in my spare time (yes im weird)

Another good weekend

last session of the month capping 20k hands at 200NL. been running good, barely had any losing sessions at all which is always a huge plus wen u move up! infact i won at over 8bb/100 this month :O had two kool hands on the weekend:

Just a really big pot. i think he missplays it after i raise the turn i clearly have a set or straight this deep and wont be folding to a shove so he should just call or fold. o well i hold as usual....

here is a K high call. this is where note taking on fish comes in handy.

here is my month graph just cause it looks pretty. 200nl on day 1, a bit of 100nl.

i have nothing to report about from teh last home game. had one of those nights where u dont hit a pair at all. but i didnt tilt! only down a buyin ($60). had one good hand where me and luke are like $120 deep and i raise his tripple straddle from sb, i shove over his $30 3bet. he calls and we both have AQ lol. AK one time!!!

250k hands milestone

ah yep thats alot of hands. 250k hands to get from 10NL back on pokersocs yearly 'phenom day' november 2009, to becoming a part time grinder at 200NL. 430 hours of poker according to my HEM. pretty awesome accomplishment i reckon! fittingly this week i just cracked the 5 figure BR too. heres hoping it keeps going up...

lifetime graph:

now for todays sweet session. played about 4 hours and was about break even for the day wen this happened...

villain in this clip is a huge fish, 95vpip and super agro. wen he checks the flop after 3betting im almost sure he has a hand cause he was just a nutter. i check behind to help make him spaz out if he had KK or something, if he has an Ace the money is going in. turn makes it even better and bam huge pot incoming.

this sets up the next hand within the same orbit. between the two hands the fish 3bet every time and pot pot bet the flop and turn. was clearly on mega tilt.

was a great flop and easy call. then he pots the turn and im like oh shit. had a very reliable tell on him he pots turns and rivers for value otherwise he bet smaller. but i figured he thinks and lower pair is value, and maybe even like AK AQ plus he is obviously on mega tilt. close my eyes and just shove it in. sweeeeeeeeeeet!

so in other news we had a dealers choice game the other day. i didnt know how to play at all so i tried to just play tight but didnt do too great. lost i think $110 but a bit of that was in indian poker lol. cant say i enjoyed the limit games they were to slow and everyone was multiway to every turn. we would have to play bigger limit stakes to make it work imo. some other games like 5 card omaha were insane, had some 4 way all ins set over set nut flush and wraps all in for over 100 each. was mental.

also had another holdem the other night. i played alrite, picked off alot of bluffs pretty well but made a pretty big mistake in one hand:
i ave AT in the sb and we r 4 way to a flop of T33. dev bets out so he prob has a T and tom calls, they r both pretty fishy so i reraise smallish to isolate one of them and take the lead. only tom calls and im pretty sure he has a T. bet turn and river both blanks. he reraises me pretty small on the river and i just knew i was beat. hes called 3 bets so must have showdown value so hes only repping a 3 by raising me here. if it was anyone but tom id fold but he is such a spaz i had to call and he had K3. he slo played it well ill give him that, if he had raised earlier he might have gotten more tho i dont know... well that was $110 gone.

another kool pot saw me raise utg to $1.5, dev calls and tim makes it $7 from the bb. i have KQs and dev to surely call behind me and being quite deep with tim who just rebrought i call. flop is 8xx with my flush draw, he cbets nearly pot which is prob not the greatest on his part, now if i just call im commited to any turn bet. i have no option but to shove $20 to $100 hoping he has QQ JJ TT and i have over 40%. turns out he has QQ and tank folds. impressive fold tim is becoming a phenom laying down his overpairs. i poker sotved myself a range here that id shove. nut flush or KQ KJ flush draws, sets, QQ+. i wouldnt stone cold bluff tim here and he knows that he said it as he was tanking. also id just call with any pair JJ and down to keep his bluffs in and get dev to tag along obviously. he has 25% equity verse that range so gg. the one thing he didnt think of is if i had a set id only call to keep dev in on a safe board and to mayb get a turn baral with any bluffs. but still tim used to stack off super deep with any overpair so i thought it was kool.

tim also called a bluff of mine. i 3bet button verse cutoff with trash and flop was Jxx. i cbet and he called, i think he prob has a med pair or a jack so i check behind the low turn card. river is a King and he checks to me so i put in a descent bet and he calls me with 33! owned...

one kool thing is dev ALWAYS sits by me and lets me rail every hand. so i know exactly how he plays now lol. he tried to bluff me several times and i called him down. for some reason he tries to bluff me lots but its all good i like him doing it cause he takes stupid bluff lines.

we played some omaha at the end and i won a few medium pots by bluffing with blockers which worked surprisingly well. no one is that great at omaha so alot of non nut hands get folded to heavy action i have found. just gota find that perfect balance of agression, id like to play more omaha its fun.

end up down $140, tom is up like $450. nearly everyone else must have lost or broke evenish. was a good night as usual though.

also transfered tim $200 online to start a roll. he has already grinded several thousand hands. phenom in the making?

**Sunday update:
today went good aswell. up $770. just made an awesome call before i stopped playing:

there is nothing worse than using ur whole time bank up on the river then calling and being beat. so im glad i won that one. figured my hand looked weak, his range looks strong. therefore he should bluff here and id fold nearly everything. alos over the whole weekend ive had a horizontal red line! i dont know how but thats awesome.

love blogging when ur winning.....
