attempt at theory

this is wat i was thinking about at work today...

so the situation is a common one for me, im opening the blind/cutoff and get 3bet by a guy with 10-15% 3bet to a steal. ive been 4betting a bit but its only slightly a winning play according to data gathered (pretty small sample). so i was thinking about calling and bluffing flops more. here was the though anyway:

4bet math...
open to $3, 3bet to $11, $15 in pot ($1 small blind), i can 4 bet $24 to win $15.

3 bet but call and raise flop...
open to $3, 3bet to $11, i call, $23 in pot.
he cbets flop for just over half say $14. i can reraise to $34 to win $37.
this seems like a much better deal!

other points to consider.
-he can hit the flop hard with his trash and continue in the hand
-he can have a premium and i have to fold, but thats guna happen if i 4bet.
-he might ch-fold certain flops, i can steal it for much cheaper.
-i might get rebluffed
-i might hit a hand and stack his premium.

ok just writing this out helped me. i might try calling more with descent hands and bluffing if i miss instead of the 4bet or fold being my standard. any thoughts on this?

also i went to pokersoc omaha torny last night. $20 entry with rebuys but it was actually alot funner than the normal holdem rebuy where i just shove alot pre cause it was pot limit! anyways is go into the break with the starting rebuy stack and top it up for another $20. after the break the blinds are pretty high and i just play quite tight and take a few blinds/ hit a few flops (prob had about 20bb average). people drop like flies around me and i hit a few key hands. i sucked out once to this fairley crap guy who was running like god. had a wrap verse a flush draw + pair + some straight draws but i got there. a good one was this asian kid whos name i should know was stealing most buttons, he raised smallish so i potted it out of the bb w 6789. he calls and flop was 662. i checked cause i know he will try steal it. he pots it and i shove and beat his flush draw. so i knock him out and double up here. tim tryed some bluffs on me when i had a set twice so i made a good chunk.

then the crap guy knocked out everyone and we went heads up 40k chips to 80k+. was all over within 5 hands. in one i had AQ33 suited ace and opened button. A82 rainbow and he pots into me, i think i prob have best hand + backdoor flush so i just call the 4k. 3 of diamonds on the turn is the best card possible so i have a set + nut flush. he pots again and i shove. he has A2 and i hold!

soo he limps button and i check JTTx one suit. flop was QTx with a flush draw, i check he pots i reraise and hes all in with the nut flush draw. gets the draw on the river but it gives me the boat haha. its all over and i finally win one of these donkey live torneys lol.

also something awesome was that new zealander who just beat durr in that big torny. even kooler is that hes a 100NL reg with a pretty descent graph (search PTR for siac0). monster score for the guy!

200 NL jump

so 200NL doesnt seem too much different to 100NL. just even more 3betting and everyone is a notch more agressive. I played 10k hands and finished up 1.5 buyins which im pretty happy with. worst thing about a move up is overadjusting and losing tonnes of money playing stupid. coolest thing is the mad rakeback. i was only playing 6 tables on average and pulled in about NZ$25 per hour. so in total i think i pulled in around $300 rake. yes that means full tilt made $1100 of rake of me this weekend! one thing different was the regs are plain better at owning fish. this means fish only last a few minutes until they are stacked so it takes alot of shuffling to keep finding games.

here are 3 fun hands:

the worst value bet/bluff catch ive ever seen.

the best value shove. ok i was just hoping hed fold his bluffs but this is worked out just fine.

im not sure what happens here but its against a reg. i think i play it so much like a Jack he turns his AA into a bluff to rep the King...

week recap

played alot of live poker this week. crazy pinaple torny and i have my last longer bet going with tim and luke. i end up rebuying 8 times but cant win any flips and bust out first.

then we played a cash game after. liam 3 bet me and bet call my shove on 789 flsuh draw board which i thought was pretty crazy call... i had KQ but hit my overpair draw haha. then i lost a big chunk to luke TT vs QQ, i guess i lost some other money too but i dont remember how. down $130 total for the nigght after all the rebuys and losing the bet.

cash game last night and i got off to a tilted start. i have KK and 3bet from the sb and tim calls. dreaded A42 board and i cbet it. maybe i should check here i duno, i hate this spot oop with KK QQ. anyway he calls and turn is another low card. i think he must have and A but it would be weak as id expect AK to 4bet? this may be optomistic for tim he never really 4bets. anyway i fire again and he reraises me! shiiiit. at least now i take Ax out of his range cause im most likely holding AK AQ or watever. so i decide tims making amove to get me to fold KK QQ like he sometimes does. so i call. check check river and he has A2. arrrrrrrrrgh wtf was that?!

ok so another hand i have K9 and open cutoff. kid and tim call. Qxx flush draw, i cbet both call. QxxK turn, i bet again with my top pair, both call. river blanks off any draws. i bet again. pretty thin but i hope someone looks me up. tim tanks for ages and then calls with KJ. so ive lost about $80 and rebuy.

wat else happened... luke owned me calling 3 barals with A rag. i 3bet shick a bunch and dev is short stacking so i kinda have to call wen he shoves. i lose like 3 times doing this. i must have 3bet alot cause i took a couple down against shick and tim on the flop or turn. finally i got KK and did the ol 3bet button trick and shick played back after just losing a big pot and i doubled up about $50 more.

i did way too much bluffing and alot of it didnt work. nothing seemed to go right really and it was just a bad night in general. twice i got a walk with AA lol! and i limped KK once and luke didnt min raise for once and i folded on 445 to some heavy action infront of me where tim had a 4.

played a quick session today which went well yet again. i havent had a losing session for ages so this is a sick sick run. had some interesting hands actually:

sb was a fish so i just called my monster flop and turn to keep him in, river was a horrible card and i hero folded... i think it was a good fold tho.

this hand was completely screwed up. i really wish i called now. do you think this guy is full of shit? normal reg stats, very agressive but no notes...

finally this hand was just awesome. first time ive ever done this and it doesnt even show up on my ev line lol. i check turn in case he was floating so he will bet it. wen he checks i think he has SD value like an A and would expect him to value bet it if i check river. it all goes so wonderfully to plan

also i played one table of NL200. got AA vs AK in the blinds and doubled up instantly, good start....guna take a serious shot at it tomorow.

and im seriously abusing sams DC account. just been watching heaps of random vids, like heads up and high stakes ones and shit. i figure if i watch them all ill just get better in general. the theory ones and low stakes can get very boring after while...

Thursdays game

what can i say. went on a sweet heater at the home game and got payed off every time. was probly the most agro game we have had yet. during the first hour about 50% of hands must have been 3bet pots. was pretty good time for run good

first big pot was against luke. raise w K9s and luke calls the straddle. cbet A8x with my flush draw, fire a second baral on the turn when i pick up a pair. luke plays so many hands i think double baralling with alot of pot equity will be a good move. he reraises me all in for $70 and the pot now totals about $100. i think i have at least 12 outs with my flush and trips draw if he has a big hand, but a fiarley large portion of lukes range would be a bluff on a board like this, cause it would be a hard call for AK AQ. also i just wanted to gamble a bit and dont mind losing money to luke cause he will gamble it back. turns out i have him crushed with a higher flush draw so he has 3 outs. luke proceeds to go on some rediculous tilt after this hand and the combination of missing every flop. down 500 for the night :(

i had another good pot verse liam. he 3bet my TT open and i called oop. 9xx and i check call. blank turn and i check raise all in. i dont plan on folding cause liam 3bets agressivly and im probly good so i shove before any scare cards come like an A or K. he also loves to hero call, and thats exactly what he did with 88 so another big pot.

i straddle A8s and we r 5 way to A9T so i have top pair nut flush draw. liam bets, dev raises and im not folding here especially verse dev who is a bit of a spaz + i dont put liam on much. i reraise all in which wasnt much more for dev and liam comes along too which was good. about a $250 pot 3 way all in and i hit the flush of course, dev had 9T and liam A9. didnt have as many outs as i thought but still a fine push for a 3way all in. if it had been heads up verse dev i think i have 40-45%.

another kool hand luke railed me with QTs. multiway flop of AKx so i have flush draw gutter. dev bets out and i think he has a pretty descent hand cause he is generally passive so i just call cause dev is a station so my fold equity is low. hit my flush on the turn ofcourse and put in a small raise but dev quickly calls. i just raised small cause i know he will call a small bet without thinking. river brings a Q which i think is awesome cause he prob has AK or AQ, i bet pretty big $55 and he shoves with AQ hehe.

the most terrible hand of the night goes to tim. he raises utg and i just call with my JJ cause we are all very deep so i wana keep it small really. 9xx 3 way and its checked to my button. i bet out and tim now calls? its a weird move and i think he has A high. turns out he has AQ and got lucky by spiking a Q on the turn. thought it was terrible because he obviously was just thinking i might be bluffing so called my flop bet. being out of position with such a transparent play there is no way he is going to win this pot easily unless he wants to commit alot of chips. a good example of a call in the moment without a plan for later streets.

that was all the big hands i remember cashed out $480 in profit for the night. i have a new strat lately. gone is the relentless 3 betting. everyone is doing it and i dont think it has much respect anymore. wenever i 3bet i get action anyway cause ppl must just remember i 3bet alot once and everyone is 3betting giving the illusion of me joining in haha. instead im seeing alot of flops cause ppl are in general just paying off really easily and i think im plain better than most people there (not trying to sound braggy) so why not see flops and win much more money than just stealing a few bucks preflop. preflop is easy to play, its after the flop that i see everyone making some huge mistakes so once u realise peoples leaks u gotaa pound away at it.

Not much interesting stuff to show on the internet poker front. being solidly chipping up the BR. here is my NL100 career so far just cause it looks prety. been feeling like im coasting Nl100 lately so could soon be ready for the big move up. might just start by adding a few table rather than a straight jump. looks like a shitty weekend coming up so might get on the grind hardcore. a saw a massive fish move up to Nl400 the other week but i was too scared to sit down. probly a good move, 400 dollars on the table is some serious stakes. one day.....

looking forward to watching sams video! might inspire me to make my own but probly not... was too busy this week to watch much deuces cracked but have been picking up some good stuff from what i have watched thats for sure.

aaaaaand now the warriors a kicking off. good start to the weekend!

porbly guna b long...

well havent blogged in ages so ill get into it. 2 home games this weeks to make up for last weeks faliure. finished up a couple of buyins both nights so went pretty good.

first night was too long ago to remeber anything. i hit a fair amount of good hands verse luke but he kept folding the turn to my raise. i thought it was kinda funny how it felt like me tim and luke were the like sharks slowly taking everyones money to finish up with nearly all the chips. think we all played solid, tim seems to have gotten over his stack off with any overpair problem lol.

last night i got off to a hot start and was up to like 300-350 from my original 50 buyin. flopped nut flush verse times T high flush for a stack. won AK v AK all in pf cause mine was suited verse the kid haha. made a mint call verse the kid again. i 3bet 67 on the button and he called from sb. flop was 78K with a flush draw i think and i cbet but he calls. turn brings me 2pair on 74K6 so i bet again big and he slowly calls. 74K68 river brings an obvious straight and he insta shoves. i take ages but call. the problem is he seldom bluffs in big pots. but i decided he isnt good enough to value bet any hands other than a straight here, and it very unlikely he has a 5 in his range from calling my 3bet and how the hand played out.he shows busted flush draw.

i made another sweet call the other night. been watching alot of deuces cracked vids and its helping me think through hands better and make sick calls. this one was verse tom. 3 way to a flop of 6Qx it was checked around. i lead a 6QxQ turn for half pot with 64 to tkae it down or get luke to call me with worse lol. both call. river is like a nine so i bet small like half pot and tom raises me huge. i tihnk he wouldnt play a Q like that he would raise the turn or make a smaller river raise. i call and he shows A high.

another good one was verse tom. i have AA and i raise some limpers on the button, only he calls. KKx flop and i cbet only for him to check raise me to $30. im 99% confident i have best hand cause how often does he limp call a K and then y would he scare me off wen im most likely bluffing. i check behind turn to induce a bluff. river makes the board kinda scary and he bets again but i have to call and was still good.

i also called down luke with K high for 3bets in a small pot. board was super scary and i felt like he isnt value betting anything worse than a flush or straight and was just trying to get a fold. it happened again last night after i checked behind AxxKx and he bet out river after 3way it was checked around so i called with 44.

i played 2 big hands verse luke and he blogged about one quite wrong lol. i opened 52s MP and hayden 3bets me. i think i have a pretty good tell on him and thought he didnt have a great hand here cause he looked VERY happy every other time he 3bet and had shown KK AA etc. luke called on button so i 4bet a little too small in hindsight $6 to $20. he folds AQ but luke calls and hits trips on 99Q. i feel like him to call a 4bet he has a pair JJ or worse and i can get him off it. so i bet $35 and he calls. turn is another Q and i check to him hoping he was couterfitted or if he has a Q he is going to bet and im folding. checked through and i have to stab the river cause i have no showdown value and if i check im too easily bluffed here. i took ages to bet and i wanted him to think i had AA or KK and was making a thin bet and lay down his JJ TT or fold anything else which is playing the board basically. but he had a nine :(

anohter hand i cbet w 55 on T42 all suited with a pair and a spade. i tihnk luke calls with worse pairs or a draw, so i can win the hand multiple ways. turn is an ofsuit 8 an i check behind - probly to call a river bet. river brings a 5 and luke bets out. i didnt really realise it was an overbet at the time. i have to raise here cause he will call with 2pairs and lower set most likely, or perhaps even lighter if he puts me on a missed A high flush draw. so i made it pretty big to look like a bluff. he took sooo long to call it was basically a slowroll and i was positive i had the best hand :( he has 2nd set.

i cant think of too many others but i had alot of cool hands last night. i liked the new guys they were pretty descent and agressive. unlike someone like hamish who played super weak tight to an almost laughable level. as long as we never invite that one gay guy again that luke mentioned. everything about him is 100% douchebag from the leather jacket to the constant annouces to the table how an actual girl is txting him. holy shit i hate that guy. lucky he cashed out after like 20 mins.

so last night i finished off 100 up. basically just lost 2 huge hands verse luke for a total of 180 to 200 dollars. its all good though i liked them both fine. i bluffed the new guys several times all in at the start too cause i knew they would be scared and it worked. tim was pretty quiet last night actually. he got flush over flushed twice lol.

ONLINE
gave rush a solid effort, playing most nights after work but just cant get a winrate going so i gave up. donked around a lot playing like heads up and tourneys but got back into it on the weekend and played some 100NL. up 250 after 5 hours or so i think. ran a buyin over ev which was nice. now im trying to watch one deuces cracked video a night rather than playing poker cause im too tired after work and at best bring my B game. my goal is to "fix" my redline cause i know im playing to weak. one GREAt piece of advice ive picked up is to increase ur redline its not about bluffing more! its about betting thin and stealing in very +ev spots. ive doubled my 3bet% up to 6%, although small sample but i was just trying to play big pots in position and it was working well. 3betting with high hands though like QJ off was best cause i could still value bet or get to showdown unlike if i 3bet 65s where i have to win by bluffing. i also played looser with a vpip/pfr of 20/16. 2 reasons. i learned if u open the sb forr 3x the bb must defend over 40% for it to b non profitable. another cool tip is is u hold an A and 3bet they are 20% less likely to hold a premium. these things add up.
i watched an especially good video on note taking and bet size tells. this is especially good against fish where you can watch a few hands and make generalisations like 'bets pot as bluff' etc and they can make calling alot easier with marginal hands rather than "ah hes a fish he is just probly bluffing here". takes alot of concentration to catch good notes while 8 tabling though. also thinking about ranges and what ppl r repping much much more, this has already helped me alot at our live game do some nice calls.
a small example i really liked was this.
ur in the bb and call a buton raise, on a flop of KTx the button checks behind the flop. 99% of the time here he has some showdown value but is kind of weak. if he has air he cbets a K high board 100% of the time. moral of the story is if you have a strong hand you should lead out pot on the turn, they will always call here cause they 'induced a bluff". if you have a weak hand you cant stab and give up you have to fire the river too. same with if someone opens early/MP and checks behind a lowish flop. he most likely has Ax here and you have to bet twice to take it down. lots of other stuff but this isnt a blog for that.

dam i tihnk i just put more effort into that than i did at work all day...

bit of everything this week

grinded the shit out of rush on saturday, and been playin a bit after work. logged 25k hands in just over a week. counting rakeback im pretty much exactly even. although down $350-400 in EV :( my graph looks pretty sad tho. not seeing any real trend upwards even with ev. ill log another 25k then have to quit if i dont start getting better i guess. guna watch some vids havent done much "study" in ages.

homegame on tue. played nitty as. wanted to be a wild night but things didnt go my way. was down $200 and we swicthed to omaha. i 3bet a raggy hand and flopped a boat on 442 and doubled up through luke. i also 4bet luke and fired a low flop with A9 but he was trappin'. if u 5bet i might have gone for the elusive 6bet bluff haha. i think those were the only exciting hands i got in. not as nitty as sam tho - he folded KJ in early position lols.

pokersoc torney last night which was a huge donkathon. i had the worst table in the world and used my shove rebuy strategy to have a pretty good stack going into the break. my table was sooooooo slow tho and we would literally play 3 hands in between blind levels which were skyrocketing rediculously fast. i had 25k and went for a blind steal (av bout 18k prob) accidently cbet too much cause i thought blacks were 10k so i tossed in a bloack and said 10k thinking i had a much biiger stack than i did. then i had to put in another black and had cbet half my stack. he had 2pair of course. then lost a flip AK v QQ wen i had just under everage a bit later ~16k, a with 1k/2k blinds. chris lai takes out the $50 last longer bet between me him luke and tim.

play short handed 50PLO between me luke and tim. i run super good and stakc everyone multiple times to cash out $240. i reshoved tim with top pair on J32 cause i thought he as bluffing and lucky my way to a 50/50 verse his pair+wrap. also called an all in with 89TJ or something on A94 after i 3bet pf. i know he has no set cause i could have AA so think im doing all right verse a draw or bluff with alot of backdoor outs seeing as i had to call$10 into like $50-60. turns out he has nut flush draw no pair but i looked it up and i was a descent favourite. maybe i should never fold in omaha. also hit like a million straights and ship the chips. i end up +$10 in my live bankroll for the week.

that about wrapps it up i guess.
